Had a fun weekend!
I watched Heather get hit by a softball three times ( that wasn’t fun to watch, but her kicking ass was).
I brewed a Belgian Ale beer (should be ready by Hallowe’en)
I relaxed and de-stressified myself.
I spent money on something I thought I would never spend money on (please save me) — Magic: the gathering cards.
I swear it’s just so I can play with some friends at work… honest!! (grumble)
I’m back at work and both my bosses are out from MN. Not much in the way of real updates, I’m afraid.
Watch for Dragon Con Friday post, though.

Put down the cards and back away now. It’s only a matter of time before you’re thinking “I can do without lunch, and I can get two boosters for that money!” and “Heather will understand my not buying her a Christmas present – I can get a whole BOX for that money!”.
On the other hand, if you’re going to play, send me your postal address, and I’ll see about sending you all my old ones, so I don’t have to bring them next time we move house.

That’s how it starts, you see. They don’t call it Crack: The Gathering for nothing, y’know. 🙂 Having been around the scene for long enough, I can tell you that it’s a little easier to resist temptation, since there are just *so many* cards nowadays, but the game hasn’t lost its fun.
As a recovered M:TG addict, I can just give you one piece of advice: never forget to ask yourself the question I should have asked hundreds of dollars earlier: “Am I getting at least as much fun for my money as I would from other things?”
The money I’ve spent on Icehouse stuff has been a far better investment in fun then the money I spent on Magic cards. (Although, now that I have stashes of pyramids in 9 different colors, I need to be careful about asking the same question before I get more.)
And, yeah, I also have a bunch of old cards I’d be willing to give away to a good home. It really is a fun game, as long as you’re careful not to let it suck up all of your money.

I have/play other CCGs — Jyhad/V:TES, INWO, etc…
I definitely do not see myself going super mad about it — I only want some to have fun with (I am going to attempt to wean my friends on a more fun game, like INWO).
It’s also a good thing I do not have an addictive personality.

i play crack: the gathering at least weekly with my students at school & josiah usually ropes me in.
i really prefer the “old school” cards – even in beat-to-shit condition – than anything that’s come out since 1997 or so.
