Rain? Is that all. I’m so dissapointed.
I want snow. Tons of it. Ice, Snow, debilitating city-stopping weather.
Rain. Pfff. It’s a balmy 40 degrees outside! that’s almost summer!
Where

Winter?!
Thanks to
Hooray! No more “only 3 icons” nonsense! No more slow servers!
Rock and Roll.
The class will (at least) cover:
Hobbit
LOTR
“Leaf by Niggle”
“On Fairy Stories”
and touching on:
The Silmarillion
History of ME
Professor is awesome.
Downside:
Class is huge, full of the usuals.
Upsides:
Both TAs are nice (and cute, that doesn’t hurt) who will be team-teaching-critiquing.
Fun! I’ll be forced to do real reseach on a topic that I have wanted to, with a group of people who will support me. I hope the TAs aren’t bitchy.
Good all around.
I start a new quarter today.
I’m sill in 1-class-mode until finances are better figured out. At 1 class I can still work 40hrs and the cost is relatively do-able if budgeted.
So what am I taking?
ENG 306: Tolkien.
I shit ye nay. Me, in a Tolkien class. Think of how much I’ll save on books!
I’m leaving work for the first session in about 20 minutes here. I’ll post again about it when I get back.
So, another year’s eve passes
I’ve never felt any special tie to New Year’s Eve celebrations or any significance — even as a child the holiday felt contrived. I remember feeling that I should feel it was a significant or important holiday, but I never have. I think it was the fallout from Christmas being over.
This Christmas was fun, but having family visit rather than visiting family still has one small little problem in it: Family. I seriously think I’d be better off being a hermit somewhere, or perhaps a recluse. Recluse has a far more romantic feel than hermit, doesn’t it?
More later, if I’m feeling verbose. Today is going to be quite a flurry of busyness.
Really, I’d just like to go back to bed.
100,000+ is a great number of people to have perished.
But why does it become more significant when it is an acute loss (say one caused by earthquake/tsunami) rather than chronic (Aids, famine, War, Poverty)?
I guess I’m just a heartless bastard that I really don’t find this catastrophe that significant in perspective.
This isn’t an argument against humanitarianism — rather a “christmas” argument. Why only now at this point are we concerned about being decent. Why don’t we all decide to be decent to others on this earth all the time? Eh?
I have a thing for custards.
Egg-protein suspended dairy products just thrill me. Whether the creamyness of a cheesecake, the velvet of a Creme Brulee, or the richness of egg nog, I’m in heaven.
So to that extent, I share my personal favourite recipe for egg nog. This is made in two parts which are combined just before serving. I like to make the custard part at least the day before.
My recipe includes alcohol. Removal of the alcohol, while keeping a ‘working’ recipe, is personally and wholeheartedly discouraged.
Craig’s Egg Nog:
6 Eggs (use the finest/freshest possible)
1 cup Rum (to taste – if you want a molasses-flavour, use dark rum. At least use a spiced rum such as ‘Sailor Jerry’s,” “VooDoo,” or “Captain Morgan.”)
1 cup Bourbon (Any old kind will do. Old Crow will do quite nicely)
1 pint heavy cream
1 pint whole milk (Do not substitute 2 pints ½&½ for this and the above cream. ½&½ is actually ‘¼&¾’.)
1 cup sugar
1 vanilla bean, scored
1 clove, whole
Fresh Nutmeg
When ready to serve:
Makes ~6 cups
Morning everyone. Monday Morning Grump here.
Eric at work brought in home made baklava (and deliciously made to boot). Grumpyness mostly removed.
Still need to make Christmas cookies. I think I’ll make some tonight while cleaning up for my mum who comes on Thursday. Also need to get candy. Need to have candy and cookies throughout the house for Christmas.
Oh and I need to get wool – I’m going to knit my mum a scarf for Christmas. Big bulky yarn + garter stitch = a scarf that even a Craig could make. I’ll ask
Great weekend of parties.
Oh – who saw our animation on SNL this weekend?
