An interesting and fun plunge

I’ve made the switch.

No, not to OS X (I’m not mr. moneybags yet). I’ve made the switch to linux-on-the-desktop.

At work, that is. I’ve installed Ubuntu 6.06 as my main operating system on my workstation here. I’ve been using it for a week or so now and it is the best ‘desktop’ linux experience I’ve had. Not too shabby a’tall. I’m weaning myself to see just how much I can(‘t) do with it.

I’ll still need an XP desktop for necessary administration, so I’ve installed (complied, built) VMWare’s free server for linux and I have just this morning completed installing XP in a virtual session.

So I have both! w00t.

Now all I need is a Mr. Moneybags so I can get that Mac laptop, do a bootcamp installation of Ubuntu to go along with OS X, and install XP on a VM ware session in that. Yep, I want all three in one fast-as-hell laptop. Joy!

Let the evil laughter commence, tout’de suite!

Dead Man’s Chest

I had to see Pirates again, which I did.

Yep, Rocking movie.

I think what I find most impressive (the first movie exhibited this as well) was the deft skill in which the writers doled out expositional lines.

We’re forced to learn a barque-load of details, storyline, plots. At no time does it feel like exposition. Gibbs gets most of these lines and he’s merely bringing another character up to running, or explaining a finer detail. Skillful, efficatious writing.

The acting as well: top notch.

I suppose two posts is plenty on summer-fare, but I may be moved again when I see it for the third time (hopefully soon).

“My compass works fine.”

Yo Ho indeed

I just enjoyed the hell out of Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. Adored, even. Yep, every bit of it. I need to see it 1,423 more times.

I had a super-fabulous weekend that culminated in the movie viewing last night. I drove down to Oregon Country Fair on Friday night to meetup with a friend who had a campsite waiting, went to OCF on Saturday, then to a field-trance-goa party after the fair shut down.

I won’t go into too much details, but the night did involve things such as:

* almost_naked ultra-hot boys wrestling in the firelight
* Big fuckoff “Hyperdrive Accelerator” Bonfire
* Fab psych-trance-goa music
* LASERS
* Full Moon in the trees

Then on Sunday, it was back to the domicile where I met backup with the lovely wife. We then went to see Mr. Depp get his pirate on.

Dunno what’s up with the naysayers of the film I’ve been reading this morning, but I’m sure happy I only need my own enjoyment to judge a film by. Fucking Awesome. More film for me!

Though since it broke all known box-office records this weekend, I suppose I won’t have to worry about it going away from the theatres any time soon (like my much-loved ‘Down with Love’).

And hooray for the braveness of the writers to have Elizabeth show a spine and take action.

Good freakin’ times.

Stuporman

Went last night with good friends to see “Superman Returns.”

It was eh. Pretty and nice effects, but BOOOOORING. Mr. Man was pretty which was nice to see. James Marsden as well was nice to look at, Kate B. looked well (though far too young — heather). Kev S. as Luthor was decent. I just couldn’t bring myself to care about the OVERLY EMOTIONAL aspect of the film. Yawn. Perhaps it’s the overhyperbole of Superman himself, but nothing really seemed to be that big of a deal.

And wasn’t this just the plot of the first superman over again, this time with superman being dead/alive rather than lois?

And when did lois get a wonder-woman strength womb? (thanks, Mr. Smith)

Still, it was over-all enjoyable. Too bad for them that Pirates comes out in a few days to remove any future money from their coffers (they being WB). I hope they got all they needed this opening weekend.

But really, Mr. Singer — we know you’re a big queen. Quit it with the longing looks and drawn out “emotion” already. It’s fucking tedious.

TIKI KON

This year was the best fucking year ever. We’ve hit our sweet spot with the format — now all we need to to is add the icing and refine.
Everyone seemed to have a blast. Apart from a sprained ankle everybody came out well!

Here’s looking forward to TIKI KON 2007. As soon as I get me some pics I’ll post ’em up for all to see.

A million thanks to my talented cadre of collaborators. I’m honored to be amongst you.

P.S. I have the best fucking wife in the entire universe. Of course, many of you already know that.

Smell that? Yep. That’s success.

In the Oregonian Today

TIKI KON made the paper – here is the online version (which doesn’t have the super cool pic)

Back in order

So, here at my work we have a (super inexpensive) gym with all the goodies.
Today was my first session. Oh, does it feel good to be back. Since losing about 80 lbs a few years ago, I’ve gained about 20 back. Since a few months ago, I’ve lost about 5 lbs.

Now the rest of it is coming back. With the easy location of this Gym (I used to work out at lunch back in CA), I’ll return to my lunchtime routine.

Back on track and looking fabulous! 😉

Cultural appropriation and ownership

Something to chew on:

A Position
———-

People do not own culture. People are owned by culture.

The very idea of culture being ‘appropriated’ is an illusion, since there are no groups in reality. There are only individuals exhibiting behavior.
