I might also point out the sentiment is from me, as well. Trying to take credit for my cleverness! Hmpf!
They have the rest of the fellowship, too. I mean.

Not to mention all the HobbitSlash that’s out there.
I dunno, HobbitSlash is probably fun.
Oh, I just figure JRR would not approve. I think that HobbitSlash can only increase the fanbase.
JRR was horrified at fanaticsm – at least that part which makes people dress up in costumes and call each other “shannara of the even glade.” I think this has everything to do with him being a middle-class Catholic British man who was in his 60’s in the 60’s and 0% to do with him as an author (or professor) 😉
But Sir Ian says it’s OK! 😀
We wished we could have headed up to Oxford today and go to the Bird and the Baby, the Inklings pub… Wish him a happy birthday in the Rabbit Room, their room. (Okay, the pub is officially known as the Eagle and the Child, but the other name is its nickname.) And the ale and food there is good!
Agreed. What little I know about Tolkein suggests he and my Grandmother would have gotten along well. From a socialy acceptable distance, of course.
And of course if Sir Ian approves . . . you know, I wonder if he could be seduced into writing some LoTRslash. Hmmmm.
A high point of my honeymoon was getting a pint of beer at the bird and baby sitting at the inklings table…
