So

So I gave my notice at work yesterday, made it known I wouldn’t mind working from home in portland. I gave Dec. 24th as my last day.

Went well, I wasn’t escorted out (yet), my boss is doing some serious pressure/arguing for my work-from-home case. Our CIO is dead against the whole telecomuting thing for admins, so it will likely fall through.

If i do the work-from-home thing, I’ll push to be a special support situation: working on projects, admin, planning, maintenance. We’ll see. Given my remoteness, peace and stability in Portland, I would be able to do great things for documentation, standardization, monitoring, etc. Would be a nice shot in the arm for our savings plan. I’d only plan though to work for another year for FI since as soon as residency comes through, it’s back to school for this boy.

I have 9 units to finish a B.A. so I should really get that done with. Then it’s substiuting and the teaching credential.

Though I wonder how this plan and my personal life will conflict with teaching. I’m hoping I can separate it. I mean how many High School teachers were guys that were married, but sucked dick & smoked pot? Probably more than I realized, I suppose. 😀

  1. Heh. When I first became a teacher, lo these many eons ago, a friend of mine told me his whole concept of teachers was destroyed because, as he said, “I know you, and I know what you do.” 😉

  2. Hooray!

I say we all quit and become a family of travelling acrobats!

BTW, what happened with the Leslie computer thing?

  3. Oh, she had to wait a day for a good copy of XP Pro installation disc. Fixed it up last night, all happy. Now we need to work on yours. I say we take is all apart and put it all together.

    IN MY CASE!

just kidding. I think? 😀 heh.

  4. My plan is to leave sysadmin work behind for Librarianship, where I know for a fact that deviants are accepted behind the “shush” veneer.

  5. If I can follow your example, I’d be wildly more successful than I can possible imagine. 😀

  6. The only thing that really needs work right now is my power supply or mobo, and I tried using a different power supply… similar issues, but not entirely.

Right now I kind of just want to kick it.. with steel toed boots.

As far as the parts, they’re alls I gots.

  7. Go you guys! (Again.)

You know, you’d be one of those cool teachers, I think.

Anyway, good luck with the packing and stuff. And hopefully the CIO will break down and let you do the telecommuting stuff. Working in jammies, how cool.

  8. rock on dude! the telecommute would such a sweet setup. you may have a chance since you’re let them know you’re serious about leaving. i’m looking at airfare to portland just after tikimama’s last day at that of hers. wouldn’t want you to feel like we think you’re now too far away to socialize with in “real life”.

  9. Oh! Yes! We are really moving to Portland. H’s monday post and this post were it for the confirmation. 😀

  10. Well you know we’re going to be tempting you with many possible lovely solutions for your 5-year plan…

I mean, plenty of good growing weather and cheap land, you know? 😀
