Weekend

Busy Weekend!

Saturday:

Went with to get her hair coloured in the Haight, then metup with , & her beau, and and her fiancee, Clint at the Oakland Museum of California.

and Clint we met for the first time, and were fabulous. I look forward to a more intimate setting where we can chit-chat, but the shared gathering was just great.

They had one of my absolutely favorite artists, Alb(i)ert Bierstadt (seen here) and other California artists of the Arts and Crafts movement. One artist, the favourite of I had not heard of (though I recognized her stuff) named Lucia Mathews (her husband Arthur also worked in art, stained glass, furniture.) Very keen indeed. I adore the Minimalist aspects of the A&C movement, and the resulting influence on the minimalist/modern movements of the following decades.

Sunday:

We got it together and started on our own Modern style for our front living room. We purshased supplies and painted one of the four walls. Our colour scheme will be faded moss green and dusty egplant, with Cool blue accents (with a base of off-white, cream, black). There were pictures taken, (some of me with my bitch ass scrubbing the hardwood floors), you may see some.

Then when the wall was painted, we ran off to a local neighbourhood pool party and swam, drank champagne, ate watermellon and BBQ oysters. Collapse back at home.

Today is just too soon.

  1. Depends on how long you will behere- but maybe not- building a huge bookcase and such first……………

  2. Bierstadt! Did they have a lot of his goods? I saw a pawful of his works a few years ago in San Diego—the paintings were huge and the colors were as rich and intense as they must have been when he painted them. Thanks for the tip. and I are leaving Canadia on Wednesday, and now it seems a stop by the bay area is a must.

  3. They had only one. There were other painters in his style/movement (and many were as ‘good’), but only one Bierstadt. SF MOMA is having a Chagal show, though, as I understand.
