An interesting and fun plunge

I’ve made the switch.

No, not to OS X (I’m not mr. moneybags yet). I’ve made the switch to linux-on-the-desktop.

At work, that is. I’ve installed Ubuntu 6.06 as my main operating system on my workstation here. I’ve been using it for a week or so now and it is the best ‘desktop’ linux experience I’ve had. Not too shabby a’tall. I’m weaning myself to see just how much I can(‘t) do with it.

I’ll still need an XP desktop for necessary administration, so I’ve installed (complied, built) VMWare’s free server for linux and I have just this morning completed installing XP in a virtual session.

So I have both! w00t.

Now all I need is a Mr. Moneybags so I can get that Mac laptop, do a bootcamp installation of Ubuntu to go along with OS X, and install XP on a VM ware session in that. Yep, I want all three in one fast-as-hell laptop. Joy!

Let the evil laughter commence, tout’de suite!

  1. I’ve been running Ubuntu on my laptop for about six months, and I really like it — it’s been comparatively painless, and my computer seems happy.

  2. It’s very user friendly, and much of the user experience is mirrored from OS X and Windows, so that people feel more comfortable.

You’ll have to keep us posted as things progress.

  3. You could probably just virtualize OS X and Ubuntu and have all three at once. With a nice virtual windows manager you could really floor your friends. 😀

  4. I’ll have to look at that when I get home – our filter blocks SA :(. I suppose I could turn it off for myself, but that would be work 🙂

    LOOOOONIX.

  5. I am really close to moving to a mac book pro – is seems like there are more and more issues with windows. I just have to make sure FFXI will work under mac with emulation.

  6. boot camp dual boot to XP – fully accelerated driver support now exists for MAC ATI cards.

Then you just boot for games 🙂

    (that’s my plan, at least)

  7. that is my back up plan – I just need to get a pro for the better video card
(and the ability to do a cool laser etching on the top)

Have you played ffxi? I am totally addicted now

  8. Couldn’t you just play that on an XBox 360 and keep your MacBook Pro for stuff like BFME2? 😀

  9. Ha! and RTS with a controller????

Can we get a ruling on this one?

    EEEEEEHHHHH!!!!

I’m sorry, that’s incorrect. Next guess?
