I’m tired of hearing and reading the claim that “Charile & the Chocolate Factory” is a remake of “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” when on its face it is undebateable that it isn’t.
Irrelevant is which you(‘ll) like better, what your ideas about another movie from the same souce book, what you think of director(s) etc. I could give 2 shits about that. Fuck you and your opinions.*
But come on, people. Enough with the intellectual sloppyness.
Quit trying to find patterns and connections for just a fucking second, will you?. God damn ape-brains.
*Inside joke.
Feel free to drop me if you feel that strongly. : )
— A sloppy intellect, capable of using the wrong word
Thank the little gods I didn’t make any of those claims in mine. 😉
But you did get my humble opinion about the movie.
I hope your day gets better.
I don’t drop people — they tumble in my wake.
P.S. the timing of this rant and your review today is coincidental.
I haven’t read behind lj-cuts, not wanting to be spoiled. I want the experience (whatever it may be) to be as honest a reaction as possible.
and as I said above, my post is not in-reply to anything other than the straw of a piece at http://www.salon.com.
and goddamnit I get tired of feeling the need to explain myself so I don’t accidentally get misunderstood.
Am I ever going to get over that and just let my rants stand? God I get tired of my self.
Have to be careful not to offend anyone, have to make sure people understand my position, have to support and build my suppositions. Fuck.
Fuck, fuck, fuckity-fuck-fuck.
FUCK.
Tired of it. Tired of it all.
patterns and connections
u are prob’ly not a fan of The Auteur Theory, either, i’d guess.
Yeah, I read that piece. It’s riddled with factual errors and misquotes; I have grave doubts he saw the Gene Wilder “Factory” more than once.
I won’t let my subscription to Salon lapse hard enough.
Just forget it; it’s Chinatown.
Well, I’m not a film critic nor a knowledgeble film enthusiast (as art), so I have little opinion on the merits of any critical theory above an other.
What I dislike is the belief that “My model of reality” == “reality”.
Which makes me existensial, I suppose. It probably also makes me unhappy.
Thanks, needed that. Ennui is favorable to self-loathing any day.
Homer: You don’t know what it’s like – I’m the one out there every day putting his ass on the line. And I’m not out of order! You’re out of order! The whole freaking system is out of order! You want the truth? You want the truth? You can’t handle the truth! ‘Cause when you reach over and put your hand into a pile of goo – that used to be your best friend’s face, you’ll know what to do!! Forget it Marge, it’s Chinatown!!!
Heh, someone else read the Salon piece. I don’t think the Wilder version was all that great, though it was definitely creepy as hell. A good “watch-it-high” movie also.
I love Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (sans Charlie’s Mom’s song). Simply adore it.
Can’t understand* what it has to do with the current “Charlie & the Chocolate Factory”.
*When I say that, I mean that am depressed by the shallow, easy way to write a column / opinion piece about another movie based off the same source material. I mean what’s easier than that? A column / opinion piece about the stars or authors, I suppose.
I stopped by Blockbuster (I know, ick) this weekend, and they had a section of “see the original, then see the sequel!” movies. It included “Willy Wonka”. Grrr.
What I couldn’t understand was one reviewer I saw on AMC this weekend who claimed it was awful because Johnny Depp was creepy.
WTF????
Wonka is SUPPOSED to be creepy!
(The other three reviewers loved it for just that reasons. She needs to be tied up and made to watch Clockwork Orange or something.)
you just hurt my feelings and now I shall cry =(
or not. =)
(personally just excited to enjoy some johnny depp + roald dahl + danny elfman + deep roy. fuckin’ a!!!!
see, that is exactly what I’ve been saying! Wonka was a creepy character from the beginning. And he didn’t like kids. At all. =)
