Following the standard practice of closing single (usually non-closed) HTML Tags by putting a slash before the final greater-than character makes me incredibly happy.
( That is: < BR /> instead of < BR > )
The very Idea of “non-closed” tags (IMG, INPUT, BR, &c.) has bugged me since I first learned HTML. Now every tag gets closed. Yay.
xhtml is very niiiice yes.
Ve must have stucture, ja? My inner prussian takes control sometimes.
Huh?
If you’d really like an explanation, I’m happy to babble.
You’re really better off in ignorant bliss about this, though: I assure you. 😉
I thought that was a really cool deal too, actually, when I discovered it. 🙂 (Not that it was that long ago..I think last month or so..lol! When I was doing some coding on another one of my blogs..I thought it was CSS though..Not xhtml…Learn something new!)
Control Freak ;-P
Freak! you’d have liked the whole ‘long form’ vs ‘short form’ argument we were having here a few months ago.
“Sample of old format:
Sample of new format: ”
It’s surprising how much smaller files are just by elimnating empty tags like that.
I also now know entirely too much XML, a language I never wanted to pick up.
Of course, I totally forget to space it all out. 🙂
Sample of old format: < property > < /property >
Sample of new format: < property/ >
I’ve never had a problem with the idea of things not closing when it applies to tags that don’t surround something. If that makes sense. Which it may not. But mostly I resent having to learn something new and different when I was happy with my old knowledge.
goddammit, when I saw your subject line I thought I was being invited to a VERY EXCLUSIVE VIDEOGAMING PARTY =(
anyway, it’s the last “real” day of my vacation, wanna drink something somewhere? =)
You’re welcome to come over tonight! Heather and I are homebodies – tired with all our running around behaviour.
ah, perhaps! will consult with hubby and give you a call. =)
