We are coming to SF this next weekend. We are once again staying at our friend Leslie’s house in Petaluma.
We will arrive in the wee hours of Thursday morning, and we’re planning to leave the area on Monday.
The event we are attending is the 5th Annual San Francisco Tiki Crawl. We’d like to spend as much free time that we can with new (and old) friends, though.
We are friends with some of the core people (and close friends with the guy who does all the work and gets little credit for it) who began this event 5 years ago and we have helped in the past with the execution of the event. We also have a bunch of friends that we see only once a year at this event. That said, like all things that grow, it is not what it used to be, and there are currenlty attending elements that (to be brief) really ruin the event for Heather and I (not to mention piss on the aspects that H and I enjoyed about years past). Compound this with both A: All the lovely people we met last weekend and B: The lack of our usual “club/bar/restaurant” routine in the Castro last weekend.
So we have decided to drive to all the events instead of making use of the event’s bus/shuttles. We want to be able to ditch, or plan to ditch if/when things get… un-fun. Then we could come out and play (and if we make other plans, we can plan to leave.)
So, I’d love to get ideas & plans from those who’d like to come out and play with us. Here is the event’s schedule below (with what I think about whether we’ll be going to it):

All these events are open to the public, you just have to say “I’m with the Tiki Crawl” should anyone want to join us. I know that
So Thursday & Friday (and indeed Saturday) Nights are all open. What is everyone’s schedule? What fun stuff would anyone like to do?
I’ll start: Friday Night, I’m thinking Martuni’s & The Cafe.
I’m totally willing to be cajoled into bar-hopping. Never been to the Cafe, but I’m willing to try almost anything once. And it really doesn’t make a difference where we go, so long as there’s good conversation and good people there. 🙂
Martuni’s, however, sounds fabulous. 🙂
i’ll be pretty easy to find at the cafe on friday no doubt. having skipped last week and likely tonight, i’m sure i’ll be there next friday.
I loooooooove the Conga lounge, we’ve had two work events there. Great drinks…but I’m biased, I love the tiki bars (maybe spending 7 years in Hawaii helped with that just a bit)
I can hardly wait for next week to end now! Tiki Bar and new friends…what a wonderful combination. I get off at 5:15 I may talk them into letting me leave early and Jeremy will meet me here at work then we’ll BART over as soon as we can.
You won’t have to twist our arms very hard for us to tag along with you 😉
Can’t wait to see you two again!
Oh, and the conga lounge is rather tiny, but a hell of a lot of fun.
It’s going to be unbelievably packed with Tiki Freaks. We were like sardines last year.
I think that means H and I need to get there early to stake out.
As crappily as I do, I need to dance!
I’ll try to get them to let me go early then. It’s usually packed on Friday night’s anyways. YAY…umbrella drinks! And of course the Scorpion Bowl…much with the tasty.
I wonder if the sombrero and the cactus art is still up. We need to do an intervention about what is and isn’t Tiki with the owner.. *giggle*
Super!
Friday night is Grubby’s birthday so we will be in the city for the evening to celebrate. We will have to hook up!
Can’t wait to meet you. 🙂
Last time I was there, the cactus was still…um…er erect 😉
But didn’t notice the sombrero, but that could be that by the time I was looking at the items around me, I had already had a few.
Isn’t it customary to spank the birthday boy?
Most definitely…he will need to be spanked.
Fun, fun, fun!
