The term “trackback” when referring to comments to a computer journal article bugs the silly shit out of me.
The person who coined this term needs to be surgically attached to the person who coined “blog” and thrown off the Golden Gate Bridge (after having been set on fire with a large magnifying glass.)
Indeed.
hey, no throwing people off the bridge. it costs us a lot of money to fish those dipshits out of the bay. ;p
Not the Golden Gate, I’ve got buddies there who deal with enough jumpers
How about the empire state building? Taller, more splatness.
NIMBY, eh? I tell you the cost will be worth it! I’ll start a bake-sale.
I like the Aesthetics of the GGB better. Besides, your buddies need the work.

oh, sorry. I’m having Internet withdrawals and it is making me EVEN MORE ANNOYING than usual!
beer is the answer!!
i don’t even understand the logic of the word “trackback.” contextually it makes no sense. therefore, it doesn’t exist in my world.
I have successfully disabled the part of the brain where annoyances directly annoy.
Therefore, these annoyances are in theory. I am untauntable on them. It is a very successful adventure.
So your blog is powerless to affect me.
Neener neener neener. 😛
Hee! 😀
think you’ll need some “special” brownies. and then just wander the festivals and you’ll make bank.
And it’s needless to boot. Coined words should fulfill some purpose in my worldview.
For instance, “w00t” is a valid coined word, as is “owned.” (or “0wn3d”) – they exist to fulfil a specifc area where “I won!” or “wee!” would not – they impart that the user is aware of the online/gaming context, etc..
What does one do to an article? Comment. Online makes little difference, a comment is a comment.
WTF are we tracking back to? A log?
Perhaps we could use “Supplemental” or something… fuckers.
i don’t touch any of that. i’m completely lost on it.
(okay, really i make the mistake once in a while.)
Well, I was wondering what to pack when visiting next weekend.
visiting here?
Unlike “blog”, “Trackback” refers to an actual technology for blogs to talk to each other in an automated fashion.

That’s why you see it on so many sites.
i’m all for levying fines on anyone using that word. big fines.
…the sound a sick baby makes? You know, right about *then*.
Ew.
Yeah, that’s my response. It’s a journal, or a diary, or an op/ed column (or screed, or rant). And I’m a word-fascist.
I know, I know, I know.
You’re kinda hot when you’re cranky. Er, well, make that ‘all the time’, not just ‘when you’re cranky’. 🙂
That makes it far worse. I now hate it even more.
Oui. We’re painting the town pink next weekend. (I think much of our adventures have been pre-planned by others though).
nice. hopefully the weather holds since its awesome here right now.
keep me in mind and maybe i can meet up with y’all for a cocktail or something.
but will you have to trackback to locate the offending parties?
;p
check out http://www.ucomics.com/nonsequitur/2005/03/07/
you need to write a 3000 word essay on why what you just did was wrong.
lol. can i just write “I will not use the word “Trackback” in a sentence in polite company any longer” 500 times or something?
How would you extrapolate from those words?
Web Journal = Ebjo, Bjourna, Bjo?
Web Diary = Ebdi, Bdia, (Sounds like Bidet?)
Web Opinion Editorial = WOE, Boped, EbOpiEd, wOpie?
Web Rant = Teh Intarant, brant?
Web Screed = Ebscre, breed
Oh, and no offense to Heather, but I find smmpi almost as annoying, if not more annoying than blog.
*snicker*
I don’t know. wOpie is funny, though it makes me think of penguins.
I don’t really have a better term than “blog”, except “journal” – cuz the medium doesn’t matter, the use does. If the point needs to be made about the medium, then the discussion is about the Internet anyway, and not about journaling.
In my HIGHLY snooty opinion, of course. *waves condescendingly at the plebes some more*
