MONDAY MONDAY and the *yawn* Oscars

Poor old Monday has to get stuck at the start of the week. Everyone hates it, even though it tries to bribe with the occasional bank holiday. Monday gets dissed.
I fear I must not buck the trend: Monday, I hate you.

Weekend was fab.

  • It looks like we may not get assraped on car insurance (if the quotes we are getting hold out). Weeee!
  • Friday night was a blast and a success. I don’t think either in that group will miss another larger party when we have one. With the party competition around here, it takes harder work.
  • Saturday Heather took the GRE and I (on account of semi-cancelled plans) played more of “Battles for Middle-Earth.” Fun game. I survived the siege of minas tirith (and the pelennor fields battle, though it gets a bit of a lessened presence in the game (and the movie). I mean, I want to command Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth and his troops.
  • Saturday night we hung at home and decompressed for Sunday would be busy.
  • Sunday we had breakfast and Heather baked cookies.
  • Then we were off to get the Urban Ititarod cart in order: Looks Tiki-riffic. We’re doing that next Saturday so there should be pictures.
  • Next we helped our Haunted House friend out by hefting wall panels and other Haunted objects into a trailer.
  • Then after a brief jaunt back home we went to That same friend’s Oscar Party.

And about the oscars:

Wasn’t that the worst and most boring Oscar telecast in … oh I don’t know … Forever?
What is with having the people on stage, or doing part of the show from the audience?
What is with the cheap ass graphics?
Bo-Ring. Yawn.

What the hell – did the budget get cut in half or something? Did someone wake up last weekend and think “Shit! I forgot we had to plan the oscars this year!”
Whatever. It’s not like there was anything interesting happening in film world this year.

It was nice to see Charlie K get an oscar. Throwin’ him a bone.

So how was your weekends, oh those who have read my yawn-inspired ramble to here?

  1. My weekend? Dropped SWMBO at the bus station at 0mygodit’searly time. Went back to bed and slept. Got fitted for the costume. Watched the second half of the Wales/France game, and all of the England/Ireland game. Cooked steak & kidney & parsnip & carrot stew. Ate it. Stripped paint. Bonded with the feline. Didn’t watch the Oscars, because a) they were on too late, and b) I wasn’t interested, and c) because of the lack of interest, forgot that they were on.

  2. What does constitute a ‘Good’ Boy Scout?

I have an idea what a ‘bad’ Boy Scout would be – “One who is not prepared” comes to mind. Or, perhaps one who would look away (or indeed: Read comics!) while the elderly attempted to cross the road.

  3. *slow nod* Aye, it was a good weekend.

The kidneys went in as an experiment, and were a flavoursome success, pan-fried in red wine before adding to the pot. The ‘snips were also good – usually I use swede, and now I know I have the choice. However, you can’t win them all: I substituted oyster shrooms for my usual ordinary shrooms and those weren’t a success – too rubbery, even after hours of stewing. And I suspect that nobody else who eats my stews on a regular basis will put up with kidneys in them, so I think it’s strictly a treat for yours truly.

I also learned how to cook sausages *properly* – in a frying pan, over a low low heat, for about 40 minutes, unpricked – and ate them, with fried tomatoes, in thick white bread sandwiches, whilst watching the rugby. Ahhh, but I could feel the arteries hardening. Magic stuff.

  4. When I was a boy scout the scoutmaster announced one Friday, “Who wants to earn their Home Handyman merit badge?” (or some variant on that name). Being a Good boy scout I immediately volunteered, together with a few others. He nodded, and said, “OK, come round to my house tomorrow morning at 10.” So we did. He lined us all up, handed us all paintbrushes, and pointed us at the garage door and woodwork. 🙂

  5. What does constitute a ‘Good’ Boy Scout?
most importantly, a good Scout masturbates in private and not in public, so he is not seen. this important dictum is, somewhat surprisingly, NOT
found in the Boy Scout Handbook.
    ( * pleased with myself * )

  6. yes u may joke about it, but it is a serious issue what a Good Scout does with his erection, motherfuckers.

  7. Is that what one learns at Boy Scout retreats?
I may have not been a Boy Scout, but I too learned that dictum.

  8. All right, enough of these testosteroney comments! I wish I could tell you I spent my weekend doing something girly, but I didn’t. Unless knitting counts, and I would rather think it doesn’t.

My weekend: knit/sleep/brief visit to compound to see cousin/sleep/knit/sleep/breakfast/sleep/work/sleep (too late).

Bah! And I’m STILL sick. (waa)

  9. I don’t think I really enjoy competitive multiplayer. Time I used to use to really get good and agile with gameplay rules are otherwise devoted to other extra-curricular activities.

I do like team play against the computer ai – it is only slightly less dumb than I and therefore a worth opponent.

If you have suggestions for areas where this kind of skill level would be ok, I’m up to multiplayer (as long as it is direct connect and not through any service. No listing server need have record of my connection.)

  10. lol

    umm…

    yeah……

Actually playing teams vs the computer is pretty fun but I practice soloing offline against two hard computer AI opponents just for shits and giggles (it’s not very difficult to win like that) so perhaps we’ll just have to agree that the game rocks and leave it at that. 🙂

    <----- competition freak

  11. You’d likely kick my ass and I wouldn’t mind (being un-competitive); but likely wouldn’t be too much fun

Maybe teaching me some tactics while we team against 2 or 4 hard AI?

  12. yes. we were lazy on Saturday. I meant to respond at tell you we were flakes and you were in fact welcome at our abode, but the laziness even won over that!
