I’ve been playing with making fun type with Illustrator – here is my current sandbox version of a Candy Cane style. I did it mostly to see if I could do it, and to see how the interaction of all of adobe’s transparancy/mixing modes work with color and such.
Those in the Illustrator know: Any tips, etc?
Those not in the design know: What’dya think?
It’s a little difficult to read. I would use a slightly less bold type, perhaps give the edge of the letter a different color from the candy stripe, or (real fancy) try to give a more 3D effect to the letters by shading the appropriate sides.
I am neither an Illustrator nor a design guru.
i like the idea, but the snowcaps aren’t really doing it for me. they look mor elike the candy stripes just stop.
I like it.
I also agree that adding a drop shadow would help a bit with legibility.
I think I like the fact that they have a certain depth to them… almost a 3D feel…
I like it. I think the snow could use a little work though.
🙂
Yeah, the snow was a layer I was just playing with, needs more work and shading.(and to not be on top of the cane striping)
Yeah – purposefull per-letter gradient shading.
snow is a bit of a throw-away. Looking for easy ways to shade in illustrator.
shading would definitely help. it’s a great start, tho.
I need CS here on my work computer – it adds those lovely special layer effects photoshop has had since 7.
Or, I could just learn more skills. 😉
I am certainly loving the vector based toolset now that I am forcing myself to use it.
