And this is me withought money to purchase said games or money to upgrade a computer to play them with.

No need for upgrade for Half-Life 2, it scales amazingly well. (Athlon XP 1800 and a Radeon 8500 LE 64MB (Far below even most value cards)
My cpu is a mere 1.0ghz.

I got my video card awhile ago for 199 and it included the coupon for HL2 so I exchanged the coupon online on the Steam server and got to play the moment it was released. 😀
