Hello there friday people.
You know, I’ve been surfing www.theonering.net since about ’99, used it for my LOTR movie news and such. We ran into the people who ran it at DragonCon, made friends, worked oscar parties, etc…
Once in a while I still go there (looking for links to what’s in the EE for ROTK, etc..)
But I just can’t understand why it is still around any more, really. They still pump out news – -but it has now gone to whomever worked in LOTR and all their current projects and stuff.
I mean, I just can’t get that level of fandom – that “oh, I’ll go see National Treasure because Boromoir is in it!” I can see if you are a Sean Bean fan (always has to play the 2nd – when is his starring role coming), but you’re not going to frequent a LOTR movie fan site to check up on Sean Bean news if you loooove Sean Bean, are you?
They’re just serioulsy stretching for news items. If they want to turn themselves from a LOTR movie fansite into a more Tolkien-centered fansite, they really need to stop filling up the news stuff…
I don’t know why I keep hitting that site – half out of habit, half out of “opening the fridge and still seeing it’s as empty as before,” I suppose.
I sure miss the promise of a new LOTR movie every xmas.

Cliff hasn’t written a GB thing in over a year. I think it’s around to give Xoanan something to be an asshole for. Plus, how else are they going to launch their big documentary?
I think you’re coming at it from a fan of the book now fan of the movie point of view, where many people are a fan of the movie therefore fan of everyone in the movie. Kind of like I feel about Joss & Co–I feel like I ought to see the Grudge, since Buffy is in it.
It’s really dumb, when you think about it. I’m working on my celebrity addiction.
