Crabby Man Speaks

It’s been a while for an update and I’ve been quite hermitish as of late.

So here’s what went on since last update

Applied for PSU job; haven’t heard anything yet.

stopped by a few Saturdays ago. Much fun was had and drinks were drunk. Fun visit.

A friend of ours is moving to PDX and we hung out a bit this last Saturday. He should be here this next weekend.

This coming weekend we’ll be camping at Bellknap with ‘s sister and her husband, our niece, their friends, etc… We’re mooching a bit and paying for it as the weekend’s indentured bartender/mixers. Looking foreward to that.

Damn I want that PSU Job. I’m going to call over there this afternoon to inquire about it. Hopefully they are just in red tape and didn’t forget to inform those they rejected.

Our Friend Rob came to visit us weekend before last and we had a huge ton of fun.

Computer Games:
* I’ve been loving Unreal Tournament 2004. Damn what freakin’ fun.
* Doom3 was a great tech demo of iD’s “new” engine. It really just seems like quake3 engine with advanced models, physics, light, and textures. Doesn’t seem like a “new” engine. Still pretty fun, but I really was underwhelmed.
* Playing Rise of Nations as well – Nice quick fun AoE on steroids type stuff.
* City of Heroes: Still loving it. Hopefully I can get some time with now that he is back.

  1. Was it the drinks that were drunk? Or were the drinks drank by drunks?

Sink Sank Sunk, Drink Drank Drunk, Stink Stank, driveway?

Hoping to get back into CoH soon. I’ve got a heinous evening class schedule. But this time I intend to finish it, and do well, as well.

    Yours in Christ,

  2. UT2004. Oh, yeah! Have you tried ordering the bots via the headset? Have you found the sekrit voice commands?

  3. some friends told me about that

    Jump and maybe dance?

voice is supposed to be really well-done. A pair of headphones with a mic may be growing legs at work…

  4. Haven’t used the voice commands lately, but as I recall, there is also “get out” (it works even when the bot is way up in the sky), and “suicide”. When you want a bot to get in a vehicle with you, use “cover me”.

  5. may need to re-load UT2004 and play some. Doom3 is a hoot for about a week after which it gets boring.

Something needs to save me from the evil clutches of Warcraft 3 soon or I will forget how to play everthing else! 🙂

  6. You can order the bods around with the headset?

    OoOoOh my goodness.

Of course, I usually send them all out to screw with the oppsition while I perform all the objectives…

  7. Well, It’s like AgeOfKings/Empires, but on crack – it’s really quick (you can slow it down)

The coolest thing about it is borders and attrition – your nations borders change based on towns/forts/temples, etc…

When enemy forces are in your territory, they take attrition (unless they have a supply wagon).

It’s almost like having ‘free’ walls.

Then there are also wonders you can build in the city that do lots of nifty things.

Basically, it is a souped-up cross of AgeOfEmpires/Kings and Civilization.

    Pure Bubblegum fun.

  8. Ahhh gotcha. The problem I’m having with WC3 is that APM is too much a factor… you I might have a briliant tactic and get crushed by some 14 year old who can click forty three things in the time it takes me to finish scratching my belly.

I enjoy the tense quality of the game but the micro-management becomes overwhelming if you’re not a mouse-wizard… which I’m not. Nor am I looking to be.

Mebbe I’ll look into RoN 🙂
