Old Cliches

They say it’s always darkest before the dawn. I know it’s always the coldest.

As work gets worse and the move gets closer I must hone my focus on the most important aspects; but what are these?

Myself and Heather, obviously. All else can fall away. So what next to concentrate on? I hate having to use more and more of my mental facilities on this piece of shit company and their worthless expectations. So today I make a further move to better my life by working less. I will let things slip. I will use the extra presence of mind on things that are more important in the long run of my life rather than the here-and-now (This job). I will swallow my pride that keeps me overworking. I will allow myself to breathe, even though it will be difficult here. I cannot continue to feed this vicious cycle, as it adversely affects that which is more important not only here-and-now, but in the future as well.

My future does not lie with this company. I refuse to let them abuse me any further, merely because they pay me (extremely Under-Pay me). I do not view my compensation as adequate (monetary or otherwise). I will give the amount I feel I am compensated for. If they disagree, I will happily accept their termination of my employ.

I’m done.

  1. I like to think of myself as a mercenary. I work as hard as they pay me.

You can’t sacrifice yourself or your life for work. Not just because it’s just filling someone else’s pocketbook, but life is not meant to be that way.

Yeah, I took Office Space to heart. But I don’t see it as just a comedy, but a social commentary. We all ought to chill with the working and just start living… well, in a better world.

  2. You may consider waiting to see who wins the next election before giving up steady employment. Either that or consider turning in your democratic party handbook and becoming a “good ol’ boy”.

  3. I wish you the best! I have noticed that things really are picking up as far as hiring is going. I’ve had so much more activity in my job search in the past couple months than I’ve had at any other time.

    Good luck!

  4. Well, I’m giving up my current field as well, and attempting to dove-tail the move with working from home while they find a replacement, etc.

Sad fact: Craig at 80% (instead of 150%) is still yards above others in our connected departments.

I’m hoping to use this as leverage. If not, I’ll have contingency plans as well.

  5. Good for you. No job is worth sacrificing the important things in your life, or your life, for.
