I have two games now that pull my spare time, and I am enjoying both of them immensly.
Both are on my first console (ok, I did have a NES for 5 days in 1991, gave it away when I got a 386sx pc clone), the Xbox *swoons*
1. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: This game is amazing in a playability sense. The game itself isn’t “amazing” in any sense – it follows the Wasteland/Fallout/Baldur’s Gate Bioware model of RPGs. The playability however is breathtaking. I am enjoying myself in RPG ways that I thought were gone! I thought I was too old or out-of-use for RPG games since I didn’t enjoy Baldur’s. The game is just plain fun, and it gets better with playtime. I am up to about 30 hours in and ( for those who are also playing) I am in Manan.
2. Silent Hill 2: Picked up for a song, this older title looked cool because I wanted a fun scary game (this was also due to the influnce of my good friend who also wanted a good scary game). We played it for about 4 or 5 hours Saturday night and only broke off for want of sleep. This game is great and scary and fun. There is a bit in the game that you can tell when the zombies are close due to weird static on a portable radio you have. Oh, and most of game is in the mist, or in dark buildings where you only have a flashlight. FUN. I want to play this game sooo much, but I have to wait for to be available because we have to play it together.
Fun!
I’ve been fucking fighting to get this posted, using both the web client and semagic client. W T F is all I have to say.. it just suddenly worked (?)
Anway, pretend I updated this yesterday.
I’m having the worst time killing that first boss in Silent Hill 2. Don’t have a lot of ammo left, ya see. Or a lot of health… (okay, I know you only make him run away, but I haven’t gotten that far either).
Silent Hill 3 is due out v. soon.
This is my first silent hill.
I am right at that first boss in the apartment complex. I have about 100 bullets, since I only used the board, and saved bullets.
I think we should plan some sort of night around the game. An evening with Silent Hill 2, no lights, and a lot of coffee.
Hi guys. You don’t know me, I’m a buddy of richard_gazley, and saw your post and thought I’d drop line in. Hope you don’t mind my 2 cents rattling around in your cup… 😀
KOTOR rocks! I just finished Manaan yesterday and struggled through Korriban up until the wee hours, but DAMN it’s a lot of fun. I agree with you about having fun with an RPG in ‘ways that I thought were gone’ as well! I won’t spoil it for you, but I’m probably going to be posting KOTOR updates and a review for it in my lj as soon as I’m finished, which I’m guessing would be today. (Being unemployed with a new Xbox is NOT a good combo.)
As for the Silent Hill series… I loved the first one, but it scared and horrified me so that in my Silent Hill playing days I used to approach my PS with not a little trepidation, much like in the Hellraiser movies, when the hero or heroine knows he has to use the Cube, but doesn’t really want to. It’s like digital crack. I mean, I LOVED Resident Evil 2, squarely for which I bought a Playstation in the first place, but Silent Hill 1 was scary and creepy as hell.
I never managed to finish Silent Hill 2 for some reason, but seeing your review makes me now think about going back to it once KOTOR purges itself from my system. However, I don’t see that happening anytime soon, since I DO have to go back and replay the game and go completely Darkside. Heh. Enjoy Silent Hill 2! I’d be interested in seeing what else you have to say about it, if anything!
