Tim Burton’s next project

So Tim is going to make a movie off of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” Yes, everyone knows of the older movie “Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” — It is one of my top ten favourites.

I am conflicted — my emotions are: extremely interested, hopeful, reluctant, skeptical, shocked, worried, etc..

I mean, there can’t be a “re-make” it would have to be original. I think the end result is that I am interested, because it would be a fresh version, and I’d like to see a version that was darker, alice-in-wonderlandish. And I have to admit I’d love to see a Burton treatment (non-POTA Burton).

Of course, (others will surely be aghast in horror), my dream casting for the illustrious Mr. Wonka would be none other than Mr. Brian Warner, Marilyn Manson himself.

And I have to admit being thrilled at the idea of more songs with lyrics from Mr. Daniel Elfman. Sung by Manson. Ah my little dream world.

  1. and the oompah loompahs will be played by none other than Abe Vigoda

And I am the Vermicious Knid!

    SNARR!

  2. If our boy Bri can act, I’m all for it. I had no idea that Dahl loathed the movie, I suppose it was too bright and shiny for him, his books were always darker (I think the movie’s about as dark as you could get away with in a movie of that time).

Tim has to earn my love and respect back after the POTA debacle, not to mention dumping Lisa Marie.

  3. My choice for Wonka would be … Gene Wilder, as he was the best thing about the original moobie and is now age-appropriate for the remake.

That said, I think this is a terrible, terrible idea. The book, like Harry Potter, is unfilmable. They’ll come up with something, but it will probably be as limp and unremarkable as the Potter films.

  4. yes, I mentioned it in the first line when I said Tim was going to make a movie version of it. 😀

  5. I’ll bet you I can film the book – you take the book and put it on a table, then get your filmstock and load…

    Facetious +1 attack! 😀 hahahah

  6. Faced!

Mind if I get a Mountain Dew outta the fridge? Roll the dice to see if I’m gettin’ drunk.

  7. The Dahl book I’d love to see made into a movie is Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator.

Pernicious Knids would be awesome with a little CGI thrown into the mix.

While on the Dahl subject – was the short story where the wife brains her husband with a leg of lamb ever adapted to film, an Outer Limits or Twilight Zone perhaps? Because that would fucking rule.

  8. I read an article in yesterday’s Guardian about how Dahl loathed Gene Wilder in the role — that’s what made him so angry. (He’d wanted Spike Milligan.) He also felt the change of emphasis on Wonka rather than Charlie was not good. Oh well. The article mentioned Manson as an idea.

  9. Rollplaying Virtual Drunkeness: That’s where’s the fun’s at, Kiddies. 😀

I want you to take us on a pubcrawl when we next visit Seattle!
