It sounds like a good idea.
I ask this for my educational purposes only – what does that actually do? The federal government can quickly and easily override a state, or even a city government, no? Are those cities planning on not sending soldiers or support? Only to have the feds come in and take it forcibly?
I just don’t understand the point; it seems like a waste of time for me. Aren’t there better things for our local legislators to be spending their time on?
Easy Answer:
Sets a precident. Allows NYC resources not to be allocated to enforcing Patriot Act. Yes, federal forces still will, but NYC police can ignore (though the Feds may drop fundage).
Also, if enough large cities do this, the message gets louder.
Not to mention the first time a case comes up, the patriot act can go to court and get (hopefully) overturned.
