standing out at work

Ok,

so ‘standing out’ at work, that is, making sure your bosses know how good of a job you do is both good and bad

Good:

better reviews
respect
better assignments

Bad:

“Leave me the hell alone with the dumb drive-bys!”
“stop IMimg me constantly I’m trying to work!”
“Yes, I usually can write nice replies with mutliple options, evidence, and reason, but I DON’T KNOW EVERYTHING nor can I produce it IN TEN MINUTES!”

heh.

  1. You have to knock off that work stuff. I mean, they only pay you to be there! IM is the important stuff, keeping up with LJ, reading email. Sheesh. I don’ think I approve of this. I remember when you were playing networked games in the middle of the workday.
