I went to the dentist this morning and had a checkup / teeth cleaning / mouth abusing.
I have 4 cavities which will need to be filled, but I found out that I may not have dental insurance.
I’m looking into that right now with my HR dept. here.
My teeth are now only about 75% cleaned, have to go back for that as well. Since I have no toothaches or bad looking teeth or anything, I guess it just slipped by about the whole 6mo checkup thing. I have a terrible time remembering, it’s a good thing Heather did, as one of the cavities is on the verge of becoming a root canal. *whew*
As I sat in the chair and had large metal things jammed between my teeth and gums, I thought “wow, some people must really get freaked out by this.” I mean, it didn’t really ‘hurt,’ but it was strange and weird to have someone applying pressure to a metal instrument there – I can see why some are afraid of dentists, and certainly glad I’m not.
Plus I’m going to buy one of those keen sonic toothbrushes! Fun Toy!! apparently they are only about $75-$100. That’s a deal for cleaner teeth.
Oh, and FLOSS EVERYONE!! It’s cheap and saves you from the ordeal I went through this morning with the scraping and picking.
Dr. Chui gave me the whole flossing lecture. Then I guess he felt bad (he’s always so concerned about you feeling good at the dentist) that he gave me a whole other talk about the fact that cavities or lack thereof is mostly genetics, so you would get them even if you did brush and stuff. But you should still brush and floss! It was silly.
Target has the Sonic fucking toothbrush for like $89. Jane was always on about them. YOu can trust a clean freak when it comes to toothbrushes. 🙂
We’re sonic fucking toothbrush.
I thought we were Katherine Harris Overdrive.
My Braun Oral-B is so… soothing. rrrrmmmm-rrrrmmmm-rrrrrmmmmm
I’m not afraid of dentists. I am afraid of what they charge. Yes: floss, water-pik, sonic and/or vibrobrush. It cost me $600 to get ungrouted.
Are the sonic ones supposed to be gentler on your teeth? In the past couple of years I’ve been having increasing sensitivity in my teeth to cold/hot/sweet. The dentist says it’s because years of brushing vigorously with a “medium” softness toothbrush has worn away the enamel and exposed little canal thingys that lead straight to the nerve. So I’m using sensodyne toothpaste and a soft brush now, which helps, but I still worry about wearing away more of the enamel…
