I think the biggest issue I have with my own behaviour is with unfinished projects. I like the creation, idea and magic of new projects and plans, but usually stall when it comes to implementation.
I’m trying to be better, and I think I am getting better – Weight loss, party plans, etc…
My next job to conquer is to actually see through this reading journal plan of mine, so without further ado, my (currently LoTR) Reading Journal goes by
I hope I don’t let this one fall away. I’d really love to have it to look back on when I have it completed.

You should start soliciting suggestions for your next reading project. Since we were having this discussion the other day, regarding _American Gods_. You were looking for an author who just tells a story, without drawing attention to the writing style. Neil, bless his heart, really does enjoy flaunting his style.
I was thinking Nina Kinkiri Hoffman (or however you spell her name). We need more of her stuff…
Everyone needs more of her stuff.
Yeah. I have the same problem with unfinished projects. The L-topia project seems like it will be an exception, but it helps that I have $800 invested in it, and I have some interest in recouping my investment. My IF game has come too far not to finish it eventually, but I’m working on it too slowly. But I come up with a lot of wild plans that don’t go anywhere. My notebooks are full of them. I should write up some of them and post about them in my lj.
I just read The Silent Strength of Stones, and liked it a bunch. I should seek out more of her stuff.
I read that and loved it — except that it ended rather abruptly and left me thinking: “what? That’s it?”
I need to read more of her.
I have to agree here. She’s an absolutely fabulous writer…
Oh! I also think everyone should read stuff by Michael Marshall Smith. Okay, so he’s not the best author *ever* but I do so love all his books. Well, except for the new one, I don’t have that quite yet, but I fully expect to love it.
I didn’t like that one as much as her other pieces. I adore The thread the Bind the Bones, and I love the other two novels–red heart of memories and past the size of dreaming. And while I was at Clarion I got to read the original ending of Savage Breasts and the story where Tom (who’s in Thread) first finds Hannah, the ghost who lives in him. Two versions of it, actually.
I got the sense that it was meant to be the first volume in a series. There’s certainly a lot left unresolved, between the protagonist and his mom, and Evan and Willow’s problems at home. And the way that the antagonists aren’t really evil, just misguided, leaves room for upping the ante in the next volume by throwing in some really bad guys. (And, hello, writing a book about elemental magic and giving it a title related to one of the elements is a blatant set up for a series with at least 3 more volumes.)
By the by, what did you think of the movie(lotr). Personally I loved it, and I’ve been avoiding previews, teasers, and trailers for #2 like the plague. I don’t want anything to be shown to me!
While many of my favourite bits were removed or changed, I felt it did a better representation of the tone and feel of the book than I could ever imagine in any movie production of LOTR. I absofuckinlutely loved it.

I was about to reply to your reply, but then I realized what I had to say warrants a whole post in my livejournal on its own. It will be a post just for nerds 🙂 Be sure to give it a peek!
yeah, I read that one and kept expecting there to be a sequel — there isn’t, is there? I think that’s the only book of hers I’ve read, so I need to pick up some more of her stuff. Course, my current reading project is _Silas Marner_ so it’ll have to wait til I finish that.
